What measures are to be adopted? This article presents the most important measures for businesses and employers (COVID pass and pandemic sick leave). This is a Government proposal that was expected to pass through the legislative process on 12 November 2021.
We will update the information.
1. Checking employees
Previous measures did not allow employers to check employees. During a state of emergency and extraordinary situation, one decree of the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic required employers to carry out checks.
For the previous months, employers could not perform checks. This is now changing. Legislation is being prepared to allow employers to check COVID passes. In certain districts, an employer will have to move to the OTP regime and will be able to check employees’ OTP status.
Employees who refuse to prove their status will not be allowed to enter the workplace. In that case, the employee loses the right to wage compensation.
2. Checks at business premises
Cafés, restaurants, hotels, event organisers and other operators will be able to check COVID passes and identity documents. Anyone who does not meet the regime applicable in the district (OTP or vaccinated-only) will be denied entry. The operator bears the risk of breaching the regime and may be sanctioned.
3. Cancellation of pandemic sick leave
Pandemic sick leave is higher than standard sick leave. The Government proposal effectively abolishes pandemic sick leave and leaves sick leave at the standard level.
